5 tips to survive Dissertation stress

5 Tips To Survive Dissertation Stress!

Writing a dissertation is one of the most stressful, hardest, TIME CONSUMING project I have ever done. At times I feel like throwing down the pencil and saying "enough is enough" other occasions i'm like "yeah, I got this nearly there" then I realise I still have over 5,000 words to still use up. My dissertation is actually driving me crazzzzyyy!

However, with all the negativity.. Realistically we're nearly there, the deadline is in two weeks *no panic*.. we'll get through it. Here are some tips:

1. GO TO YOUR DISSERTATION SUPERVISOR LOADS!!

One thing I've learnt from other students is go to your dissertation supervisor non stop, if you have to! They have been there, and done it. Drain them of their guidance, take their tips, ask 101 questions if you have to!

2. DON'T WORRY ABOUT YOUR INTRODUCTION & CONCLUSION

When I began to write my dissertation I spent ages on my introduction, after just about completing it and showing my supervisor he said.. "don't worry about your introduction and conclusion they will virtually write themselves once you've finished your whole dissertation".. Great heads up, I would have known this if I paid attention at the dissertation seminar!

3. TAKE REGULAR SHORT BREAKS

Everyone needs to regularly take a step back and breathe. If your on the computer take a break rest your eyes and fingers. By 'short break' I don't mean clicking on the minimise tab of your dissertation and jumping on youtube or something, just turn off the computer and relax... re-energise..

4. STAY AWAY FROM SOCIAL MEDIA

Ahhh.. Social Media.. we all have it, we all get bored and want to quickly see whats happening in the virtual world.. BUT DON'T .. I say this from experience, if you tell yourself you're going to take a 5 minute break and you just happen to be on social media you will be there for ages! Try to give yourself a day of focusing purely on your dissertation, then reward yourself in the evening but relaxing or whatever you feel.

Keeping focus is so important, particularly when you make significant progress, you just need to keep at it and remove all distractions.

5. YOUR DISSERTATION WILL TAKE OVER YOUR LIFE BUT DON'T PANIC

Just remember, it's stressful and disheartening but one day *soon hopefully* your nightmare will come to an end and the dreaded dissertation will be finished! Try not to panic, burn the midnight oil and crack on superstar!

Good Luck.. May the forces be with you!!
