How to Make Friends in the City

Leaving your best friends behind and having to find new ones can seem impossible, but there are so many ways to connect, trust me, you will find your people.

Girls Night in Soho

I think one of the scariest things for a woman who moves anywhere by herself is the daunting task of making friends. Leaving your best friends behind and having to find new ones can seem impossible, but there are so many ways to connect with people now.

The one app that changed my life here in New York is Bumble, yes Bumble. One of my friends had moved to Phoenix and had a great experience using Bumble to make friends so I figured I would give it a try.

I had never used Bumble BFFs before, so creating a profile was one of the first things I did when I moved to the City. I chose pictures that made me seem fun and outgoing; I stated that I had just moved to New York and was looking for girlfriends to get brunch with or go out with. Then it was time to swipe.

There are so many girls on the app that are in the same position. Bumble BFFs is how I have met some of the best friends I could have here in the city. There are so many women here that are looking for friends or are looking for girls to go out with. You are not alone.

Another great tool, which may seem outdated but is still a great resource is Facebook.

There are so many New York City based Facebook groups. The one that I would highly recommend for any woman moving to New York or looking to move is: The Girls Room:NYC. It is a private group but the application is very easy so don’t let that deter you. There are so many great girls in the group who are looking for friends or people to go to events with. You can even create a post about yourself and what you're looking for in a group of friends. It is a great place for women to connect!

There are obviously so many other ways to meet friends, but these have been the two that have worked the best for me. My tip is to be open - be willing to meet new people and experience new things!
