Tip #1: It's All About the Shoes

The key to surviving in the city (that no one tells you about) is shoes. Comfortable shoes are key. Those shoes may be sexy, but if you can’t walk in them - they’ll ruin your night.

The unsexy truth about living in a big city - you have to be able to walk long distances. Don’t get me wrong - if you're rich and can afford to Uber everywhere you can get away with wearing skyscraper heels that kill your feet. But if you're on a budget, comfortable shoes are key.

Whether you're going for a stroll around the city by yourself, or going out for a night on the town - you have to be able to walk MILES in those shoes.

I love a sexy shoe - but if you’re going out for a long period of time, you should either wear comfortable shoes or bring comfortable shoes in your purse to change into.

One of my first nights out in NYC, I was with a new group of girls {article coming soon about how to make friends in the city} and we stumbled upon Mr. Purple (a cool club in LES). One of my friends wore the cutest heels, thinking we were just going to dinner and weren't going to be walking much - she was wrong. After standing in line for almost 45 minutes (and complaining the entire time), we were finally near getting in and she was nearly in tears. While I was ready to go into the club and dance (I wore sneakers), she was ready to go home. The shoes you choose to wear may not seem that important but TRUST ME - they are.

Personally, I recommend cute sneakers, a good platform boot, or a good platform heel... really anything you can comfortably stand or walk in for hours at a time.
